While receiving medical treatment, turtles will remain in the Turtle Rescue Team Lab located at North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. There, we readily have access to surgical equipment and medical supplies in case of an emergency. Everyday, student volunteers care for the turtles, giving fresh food and water and the necessary treatments.
In most cases, after completing all treatments, we send the turtle to a foster home prior to release to ensure full recovery. This not only frees up room in our lab so we can treat more injured and sick turtles, but it also reduces the stress level for the turtle while also receiving more attention and care. If you are interested in fostering a turtle prior to release, please go to ‘Volunteer‘.
